This Report is made by Sager Food Products Inc. (“Sager”, “our”, “us” and “we”) for the financial reporting year May 1, 2024 to April 30, 2025 (the “Reporting Period”) and sets out the steps taken by us to prevent and reduce the risk that forced labour or child labour was used at any step in our production of goods in Canada or elsewhere or of goods we imported into Canada during the Reporting Period.
This Report has been prepared and filed pursuant to Canada’s Fighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act (the “Act”).
Sager has been operating since 1983 and we are not aware of any forced or child labour within our organization, business activities or our supply chain.
Since April 2024, Sager has begun the process of taking steps to reduce the risk if forced labour or child labour in our business activities and our supply chain. Specifically, Sager is in the process of completing a mapping exercise and assessment of our suppliers relating to the risks of forced labour and child labour. We have developed or implemented the following:
Structure: Sager Food Products is a private Canadian-owned Corporation incorporated under the Canadian Business Corporations Act. Activities: Sager produces cooking oils which are manufactured and packaged in Canada. These products are distributed to major grocery chains in both Canada and in other countries, as well as supplying foodservice customers throughout Canada. Supply Chains: Sager imports certain goods, including olive oil from the Mediterranean basin, sunflower from Europe and coconut oils from Asia, including the Philippines, Vietnam and Sri Lanka into Canada.
Sager has a robust process for onboarding its suppliers. All suppliers must have the appropriate food quality certifications and must respect all applicable laws, including labour standards and must be approved by Sager’s QA team. Sager’s QA team conducts regular assessments of its suppliers.
Sager sources oils and packaging materials from accredited (GFSI) suppliers. Some of these suppliers are located in developing countries or countries that have a low rating in the Corruption Perceptions Index. In fiscal 2024-2025 all suppliers were sent the Sager Supplier Code of Conduct and suppliers that are deemed at risk will also be sent a Self -Assessment Questionnaire. Based on responses to the questionnaires, Sager will evaluate which additional steps, if any, would be required to ensure compliance.
We have not taken any remediation measures as we have not identified any forced labour or child labour in our activities and supply chains.
We have not identified any loss of income to vulnerable families resulting from measures taken to eliminate the use of forced labour or child labour in our activities and supply chains and accordingly, no remediation measures were taken.
Sager does not currently have any training for employees regarding forced labour and child labour.
Our Director of Operations as well as our Controller, who oversees human resources, both have a good understanding of the issue of forced labour and child labour, and they have hiring responsibility.
In accordance with the requirements of the Act, and in particular section 11 thereof, I, in my capacity as President and a Director of Sager, attest that I have reviewed the information contained in the Report for the entity listed above. Based on my knowledge, and having exercised reasonable diligence, I attest that the information in the Report is true, accurate and complete in all material respects for the purposes of the Act, for the Reporting Period listed above.
